The Poole Local Plan sets out policies to guide development in the town up to 2011. It was adopted on 30th March 2004 and replaces the previous Local Plan, which was adopted in 1998. It is an important document for the town as it includes policies that will help shape the location and amount of new housing in the Borough as well as ensuring the delivery of a proportion of affordable dwellings and a suitable supply of employment land. It promotes housing and employment uses in accessible locations and ensures the protection of important resources such as public open spaces as well as important natural habitats including the Harbour and heathland areas. The Plan is also important in providing a policy basis for the regeneration of the central area of Poole as well as much needed second harbour crossing for the town.
